This is a statement such as: ‘Stop whining, start acting!’ / ‘Stop worrying about it, start working!’
If we want to communicate fully with another person, a logical appeal makes it difficult, since it suggests that we are fed up with talking about the subject and we want to close the conversation, but we also want the other side to feel better. It seems to us that in this way we are encouraging them to act. Nevertheless, the other person may not necessarily feel that they have been understood; they may not yet have said everything they wanted to share. They might also feel unappreciated, possibly hurt, since the words ‘Stop whining!’ signal that their expression of concern relating to matters which are important to them, is perceived as ‘whining’ by the recipient.
